Gear List

Knowing I will face 700 miles of desert forcing me to frequently carry up to 8 liters (17.4 pounds) of water, followed by an increase of weight of clothing and gear for the Sierra, my focus was going ultralight in gear selection. Many of the big brand gear companies offer lighter weight options, but never quite cut it. This allowed for garage companies to emerge, with each specializing in just a few pieces of gear. These companies often focus on cutting weight, using materials like dyneema, cuben fiber, and ultra sil nylon in addition to offering custom tailoring and excellent customer service. For instance, instead of the 4 lb 20° down sleeping bag I carried on the AT, I was able to purchase a 19 oz down quilt with an extra 3″ from the stock to make up for the lack of hood. The obvious down side to ultra light gear is the increase cost. For my situation, I am more than willing to make that trade off to lighten my pack.

I need a to complete my hike before I can offer a gear review (you can check for that in October), but here is my PCT gear list:
